Re: Southern Forum Day @ Frilford 24th March - Plans for the

my idea was that the morning 9 holes would be a warm up before battle commences in the afternoon.

Happy for the morning format to be texas scramble though not sure how it would work with 20 people as i have never played one before.

Texas scramble in the morning might be fun. Groups depend on numbers, 20 players = 5 groups of 4, 21 = 7 3-balls, but you might have to have an odd 3 or 4 ball if the you get 22 or 23 players etc. Could say each group must use at least 1 tee shot from each player. That sometimes adds a bit of tactics to the mix. Also a bit of pressure if you have to take a particular drive on the last hole.

I have no idea how to work out handicaps for a scramble but I'm sure someone will.

For teams of 4, add up all the handicaps and divide by 10.
For teams of 3, add up all the handicaps and divide by 6.
Half the final figure again if your only playing 9 holes.

Its a good format for getting to know your partners, but on the other hand it can be slow going, what with people collecting balls and returning to the place where you're all shooting from.

Re: Southern Forum Day @ Frilford 24th March - Plans for the

It can be really quick as well if everyone moves quickly, doesn't worry about the odd stray ball and is ready to play as soon as their partners have hit. I played a 9 hole scramble last night with 3 friends and we were round in 1 hour 20.

-4 under btw 2 birds and an Eagle

It's a really fun format and works really well if you bring a few old balls you don't mind losing. If the first person hits the fairway the rest of your group has licence to take risks.

Normally with this format you have to take 4 drives from each player (normally 4 person team) & have 2 "free" holes!!

So with a 9 holer - 2 drives from each player 1 "free" hole!!

Like MXMan said brings in the odd tactical decision ----- may have to play out of the tree's rather than middle of the fairway!!!

All good stuff!! ;-)

The draw will be incredibly random as it will be drawn by 2 small children so who knows what will happen..... :)

Hi Wotsit,

I'd like to add my thanks to you for organising this to those posted already.

Not been to one of these before, so would appreciate some guidance.

1: Is there a dress code for the clubhouse? Thinking of brunch. Do I need to find a jacket and tie?

2: Will I be able to use my trolley which does not have hedgehog tyres?

Thanks

Having played there last weekend on the same deal.
1. Normal dress code for bar, brunch in restaurant and we were fine in golf attire.
2. Normal trolleys were fine when we played. I used my powakaddy.
