Since being fitted for my MP-60's some 2 years ago my game has improved considerably. However, due to my improved swing and consistency the ball flight has now become very high; not good when you play Scottish links courses most of the time, (Although I am becoming very proficient at knockdown shots into the wind).
My clubs are fitted with Dynamic Gold Lite R300 shafts, I would like to change these for something that would give me a lower ball flight.
I consistently hit my 7 iron 145-150 yds. Oh, and I'm not as young as I used to be, just the right side of 60.
Any suggestions for new shafts would be greatly appreciated.

Brom.

To lower your ball flight there are basically 2 ways depending on how you what to lower it, either go with a stiffer shaft like s300 or even s400. This will lower the launch angle however if you want to reduce the spin you could choose a project X shaft that probably will launch as high or even higher, but will spin less and therefore lower the flight.

I would however recommend to try the s300 or s400 if you like the R300 feel.

good luck

Mem990004,
Thanks for that. I was slowly coming to that conclusion myself but needed confirmation that it was the way to go. I will search around the local golf shops and see if I can find a set of MP-60's with stiff shafts to demo.
Anyone from Mizuno care to comment or recomend a shaft?
regards,
Brom

I think S400 is too much shaft, and I would suggest you start with normal weight R300 before going on to S300. If you can't demo a MP60 R300, try a MP57 or 62 and it will give you a good idea. Any pro shop with a Mizuno fitting cart should have one of those.

Wouldn't rush to go to S300/S400 judging by your distances.
Dynamic Gold R300 will provide a lower ball flight to the DG Lites.
Why don't you consider strengthening the lofts first?

I tried an MP-57 6 iron with a R300 shaft at the range yesterday. The ball flight was a little lower than my own MP-60 so I will probably go with those shafts. I like the 57, nice club, but resisted the temptation.

Fitter,
Thanks for the input. At my age I doubt if my clubhead speed is going to increase as the years pass by, so I think your advice is sound, stiff shafts are realistically not for me.
I hadn't thought about strenghtening the lofts, which would give a lower ball flight and, no doubt, a little extra distance. It's a big step, so I'll just change the shafts for now and keep that 'mod' until I see how the new shafts work.

Many thanks to you and all who offered advice, it's much appreciated.
