Any plans for Mizuno to make this available as a custom option on irons? I have DGS300 and want something lower spin, but find PX too harsh.

Hi mjtoal

We've done quite a bit of testing with KBS Tour shafts on tour and the results seem very promising for the right type of swing. However we have found that they spin the ball a little more than a DG or PX shaft so not sure if that's what you're after.

As far as offering them through our custom programme we're hoping to add them to the options a little later in the year.

Best regards, UTY

Thanks UTY.

I have MP60s with S300 fitted at the Leatherhead fitting centre, but since then I have changed my swing to strike down a bit more. My local pro measured the 6 iron spin at 6600 rpm, which he said was about 1000 rpm too high. I have also hit MP52 and 62 in a PX 5.5 and although they seem fine at that flex, I would be a bit more anxious about whether I could flight a 4 iron off a downhill lie.

I had some work done on woods at a specialist clubfitter who suiggested the KBS might work, which they said was in between S300 and PX in spin. This place can set me up with a set of KBS, fully fitted to a high standard, but it would cost about 50% more than the MP62 black nickels with PX.

The PX probably spin it the least but they're not everyone's cup of tea - they don't offer a great deal of feedback and some players say they feel a little "dead". The stronger players love them though.

As for your spin rate one option to reduce it would be to make the lofts maybe a degree stronger but we'd only recommend that if you were hitting them very high - maybe not the solution for your case if you're concerning about flighting the longer irons.

It's a tough one to solve because to hit it higher you could go for a softer tip shaft but then the spin goes up. Another option would be to go with 52 long irons or a Fli-Hi and let the head design produce the higher flight rather than the shaft.

Might be worth a trip to the National Fititng Centre again for them to have a good look at your numbers.

Best regards, UTY

UTY, thanks for the speedy reply. I didn't mean I don't flight the ball high enough, just that the harsh feel of PX is more offputting on a difficult shot compared to one off the range mat.

Hi,

For me PX 7.0 in MP 67 1°stronger loft just perfect performance and feel wise. PX is not dead or harsh on me in those irons (also not on the tested ZM and Nike VR in other locations). I think to each his / her own.

I can only recommend to undergo a Mizuno Trackman Fitting. They will recommend the optimised combination for you.

Thanks. You sound like a big strong lad, though, with PX 7.0. I couldn't get those off the ground!

Hi,

Well, at Mizuno Trackman fitting average clubheadspeed with my 6 iron PX 7.0 was around 103mph and spin 6500 rpm (still on the high side but just in the limit) and still ball flight on the high side with PX 7.0 and 1° stronger loft but much more to my liking than before the fitting.
Thanks again Mizuno guys.

Best regards

Tried a MP57 6-iron with PX 5.5 on Saturday. Went well, although the feel was not great, as you would expect from PX.

Thinking about the MP62 with PX now. Two questions:

1. It doesn't look like there is much difference between the 57 and 62. Is that fair?

2. If I later decide I didn't like the PX, could I have them pulled and KBS fitted? Not necessarily by Mizuno, but another fitter.
