Mizuno, it was disappointing to unpack a new Fli-Hi club, take off the headcover and find it marked like this at the neck, right down to the bare metal. I need the club so I've kept it, but I really don't think it should have passed Quality Checking in this state. An area to look at maybe, as Mizuno should do far better, IMO.

I would have returned it. If you enlarge that image you ca see a lot of ripples as if someone had tried to adjust the lie and then painted over the consequencies.

Yes, that was my first thought but timing was a problem. I wanted it for a couple of competition rounds, and getting a replacement would have taken a fortnight or so as it was a custom build. I'll see if I get a helpful response from Mizuno on here, if not I'll contact them direct.

One look at that and I'd be sending it straight back to the shop I got it from. That isn't going to last long before the coating starts to peel off the neck of the club. If it needed adjusting were you warned it may adversely affect the cosmetic finish to this extent ?

There is a line on the custom section on 'craftsmans marks' - which is the wrinkling that can happen when you bend clubs. It didn't occur to me that it applied to the Fli-Hi as well as the irons.....just had to educate myself. Was aware of it on irons. Unfortunately because we bend at the point of assembly, any painting / plating has already happened at that point - hence the disclaimer.

So by letter of law it most likely wouldn't have been exchanged. Has created a discussion here.

Loft and Lie adjustment
Mizuno irons can be adjusted to varying degrees depending on model and material type. In some cases “craftsman’s” marks on the hosels may result from bending them to the required loft / lie.

Any adjustment to loft will alter the bounce angle on the sole. Making the loft stronger will increase the offset and reduce the bounce angle.

Iron lofts can be bent up to 2 degrees stronger than standard (note: making the loft stronger will increase the offset and reduce the bounce angle of the sole).

No loft or lie adjustments can be made to drivers or fairway woods.

No loft angle adjustment is possible for JPX919 Hot Metal, JPX919 Hot Metal Pro, JPX Fli-Hi and Hybrid models.
