Firstly what a win for Aaron Rai and also what a role model he is for the next generation coming through. No ego, simple, humble, dedicated and thankful. I (briefly) met him at the Open at Portrush last year on the Weds practice round and followed, chatted to him between holes. Genuinely nice guy and impressive ball striker too.
Re the course set-up - look this is a major, may be the least important one, but it's still elevated above every other event on the planet for me. I don't want to see a major where it's won at -26 etc - I want to see the best guys & girls on the planet tested to every limit of their ability. The course did that - greens that were very tricky and nearly impossible to hit if in rough or wrong side - buy hey - guess what tour guys - hit the fairways and you have more control.... it's not rocket science and Rai did fairways and greens better than the rest.
I'll post my thoughts on roll back on a separate forum but I don't think it's just ball - it's a combination of equipment, rule tweaks and course set up...
