I guess I'm getting old. When someone I have never heard from wins a major tournament, for some reasonm, i find it less interesting to watch.
I'm curious t hear opinions from you guys in Europe. What did youo think of the course conditions? Burned out as the fairways were, it seemed a lot of good shots rolled so much they eventually wopund up in trouble. I felt like it brought too much an element of luck into who won. What are your thoughts?

Hi Dennis ... Fox is well known to us across the pond - Most of his career has been played on the European Tour (now DP World Tour) - He seems to like links golf & was pipped a few years ago in the Irish Open when it was played at my brothers links course @ Ballyliffin - Fox lost the playoff ...
In terms of course conditions ... I am far from a links expert, but have played my fair share, including Birkdale, which I found a tough but fair test - However it was not in the condition the players in this years Open experienced, due to a recent long spell of hot & dry weather here in the UK - So what you say is correct, that the ball was getting so much extra roll & on a links course that usually means you will run into trouble - More difficult for sure & lots of top players could not handle it - I was surprised to see any Americans doing well, but there was a handful of them that could have won?

Hi Dennis, the extensive period of dry, hot & sunny weather here has not just caused havoc on links courses - Parkland courses are also burnt to a crisp, especially if your course (like mine) does not have fairway watering? - Trying to hit the ball off rock hard ground is no fun & like Birkdale, controlling where the ball runs too is also hard to take!
You were not alone in hoping Tommy might prevail - Most of the UK support was for Tommy to win in his won back yard? - At least a certain "Bryson" finished well out of the running ...

I thought he acted childishly, threatening to quit. I would have liked to be a fly on the wall to hear who got to him overnight and made him continue, maybe one of his sponsors?
Now he's acting worse, questioning whether to continue competing if the LIV Tour collapses, (As if he's taking that out on the PGA Tour), but instead to turn to his position as an internet influencer to make a living. He probably has more money already than he would ever need, but I see a confused young man who doesn't realize how he is distancing himself from the more typical golf fan.
Much like Tiger in his younger days, I feel like Bryson is arrogant. I am often amazed watching him play, (like a 211 yard 8 iron at The Open), but I wouldn't want him to be my next door neighbor.
Tommy, on the other hand, is a player who I find so down to earth, so human. I've had friends ask me how I could root for someone who isn't an American and it's quite easy to say I root for players with character and who are interesting to hear when they are interviewed, who don't spit out constant cliches. Tommy and a few others fit the bill.

I agree with everything you said in your post Dennis - I am always amazed by the amount of people who seem to like Bryson? - Millions of followers online, who hang on his every word - His power & skill set don't seem to be matched by his intelligence or integrity & I have never warmed to him due to his behaviour, on & off the golf course ...
