I'm about to head to the hospital to get a pacemaker. I should be home by lunch time. I've known this would be in my future for about 5 years now, so no big deal.

My only concern is, does this mean I now have to give other people one stroke a side or two???

Good luck Dennis, I got a Pacemaker combined with a defibralator 3 years ago, just not allowed to raise my left arm over shoulder height, and no golf for 2 months, ,

Yeah, I'm not happy about taking 6-8 weeks off, but it's been fin to look at my Fitbit during the middle of the night and see it say my heart rate is 60+ beats per minute. When I would sleep, it was around 30 before.

Unlike friends who said they immediately felt better, I don't feel differently than I did before. maybe my Medicare plan doesn't cover that part.

Like I say Dennis, everybody is different and how they react to the pacemaker, and not everyone gets the same pacemaker, , Last November I got 2 shocks in the space of 4 mins,. from the defibrilater kicking in. But I`m lad I have the pacemaker ,
I don`t have the watch, I have a Ring ( Oura ) It covers everything, really accurate, are you on betablockers?

Thanks... Things are going well. I don't feel any differently, but my Fitbit proves it's working.

I think the best thing so far was last night when we took off the huge bandage that had padding in it. It was literally a foot square, for a 2" incision. Now, I can move without a lot of tape pulling on my skin. That's a huge relief.

Thanks... So far, so good. Tomorrow will have been a week and in theory I should be allowed to drive again. I have a couple errands I would love to get done, so unless I feel poorly when I wake up, my butt will be on the road again.

Thanks guys.... Yes, it went well, though i probably won't be playing golf for 2-3 months. Fortunately, living in Miami, Florida, that doesn't mean I'll miss warm weather. It will always be there waiting for me.

I went to a chiropractor about something else and they did an x-ray. I got to see what my pacemaker looks like from a rather different perspective.

The surgeon's office spoke to me yesterday. I was allowed to remove the bandages, but I still can't see the actual incision, because it has small pieces of tape holding it closed instead of stitches. The best thing was, I'm now allowed to shower instead of taking sponge baths in an effort to keep the incision dry. If a shower ever felt luxurious, it was this morning.

I was also sent a monitor to keep on my nightstand. It reads my pacemaker during my sleep and sends reports to Merlin, the manufacturer. I feel like Big Brother is watching, but OK.

About the only thing left is to wait out the time until they say I can play golf again. We're going to North Carolina next week for our younger granddaughter's high school graduation, so that will be a nice distraction. When we get back, maybe I can go out to chip and putt with the guys.

Sounds like good progress Dennis? - Also sounds like you are prepared to be sensible & get back into golf gradually. so well done on that too - Surgery & the linked technology these days is amazing ...

Glad it went well Dennis, Yes golf is on hold , when I got mine, not allowed to raise my arm over shoulder height, then no golf for 2 months, mobile phone not to put it on my left ear, be carefull when near overhead electricity cables, some Pacemakers react to them, check instructions when using , hedgetrimmers and machinery as they also can effect the Pacemakers, I would look into the website of your manufacturer of your pacemaker and see what can efect your pacemaker, I have a dual pacemaker which has a heart starter if my heart stops or goes under a certain level, getting the pacemaker it give me another 10years
longgevity,

Mine is from Abbot Labs. There is no phone app for my model. My sister had one from some company called Medtronics and does have a phone app. I was sent this huge transmitter to put on my nightstand. It supposedly reads my pacemaker during the night and sends reports to some lab. I have no idea what they do if they didn't like what they would see.

I find it unusual that the manual for mine doesn't mention anything like the power tools or overhead lines you mentioned, although friends have mentioned the same things. My doctor's office or surgeon's office haven't said anything either, other than not lifting my arm above my head. Being diabetic, I tend to heal more slowly, so when they tell me 4 weeks for something, I tend to mentally double it.

What i do notice is interesting. My Fitbit says I am sleeping much better. Typically, I would sleep 4 hours lightly and another 4 hours in restless mode. Now, it says I'm sleeping nearly 8 hours a night, often including some deep sleep and REM sleep. I don't feel any differently and still feel like I want to nap during the day, but it's an interesting change.

What I'm waiting to see, something suggested by a friend, is whether the pacemaker changes my heat tolerance. I've heard pros and cons.

Dennis, is your pacemaker the dual type, I have a monitor beside my bed like your have , it`s wonderful, I have been contacted by my heart doctors at the hospital several times by the information/data they got from the monitor,
Dennis, with regards to your Fitbit watch, I used to use Apple watch , had no problem , but people on ICD pacemaker group on FB, a few of them did`nt like the FItbit watch and changed it, , , I have gone over to the Oura ring,. but as long as you have no trouble with the watch, don`t change it,

Don`t do any Ice bathing , severe cold can effect the pacemaker......haha

I've had the Fitbit for a long time, a gift from my wife when I decided to be more interested in exercises and stretching. It shows my obviously increased heart rate, but I have no idea exactly how accurate it is compared to an Apple watch.

Next Tuesday, we leave for North Carolina to attend one of our granddaughter's high school graduation. It will be the first time I need to go through airport security and show my pacemaker card. I've been told to avoid letting them use a wand on me and to walk through the security chamber quickly.
