Just replied to my online buddy Paul Boy. We have discussed how rare the 9001 Napa is. I WANT ONE! name your price. If it was a Wilson Forum could get a lovely Crenshaw 8001 no probs. The 9001 is very gorgeous and very rare
Anyway, the topic of toe hang angle and face balanced came up.
Face balance for Rose and toe hang for us mortals.
Err.. I think we could disappear up ones chuff...

Basically the only thing that matters is that squidgy organic strange unpredictable thing located a couple of feet up from the putter grip.

Definately worth getting fitted for a putter though, half of the round for most of us.
Grip, length, weight, feel etc etc

The most important club in the bag.

Any thoughts chaps and chappesses?

Smitty.

Sorry Ben used Wilson 8802.

Why dont they just give these things tactile names instead of numbers ??

Jack called his White Fang xxx

Chuck Berry's Gibson guitar called Lucille, much nicer than 335 mark 2 😆😆😍😍😍

In the late 60's I bought my first new putter and it was a Spalding Synchro Line heel shafted putte which worked well for me for many years. It now has the the appearance of being used to break rocks. Leather grip and stepped shaft as normal for the time.

It wasn't until after Bettinardi and mizuno parted company that I got to try the BC7 but I was't able to purchase one. I think I would prefer that to the 9001 for use.
These days I use a slight toe hang Anser style putter.

Oh dear... I actually drove a Volvo 3 series back in the day.... recipe... Sticky back plastic, rubber bands and 3 tons of pig iron. But Volvo v SAAB in a head on? Like the Rumble in the Jungle where Foreman was the Volvo.

I loved SAABs, so much inovation. As a kid in the 80's, our club captain had a white 900 Turbo, it was the coolest thing in the car park. Just such a shame that GM's crack team of accountants killed off the brand 🤥🤥

For the first time i will go to a mizuno putter. I just ordered the VI black edition. I have all the old ones in my garage lol. Currently i use an old taylormade ghost tour malled putter. Only my old scotty is in my bag in Spain.

That would be a tad difficult as it isn't made of steel. :p
Ah... I see... Aluminium. OR ALOOMINUM AS THE US PEOPLE SAY.

Apologies... back in the day it was the in thing. I had a Ray Cook M1 as a kid aged 14. My 9 year old sister called it my Ping putter. I told her it was not a Ping but she said it goes 'Ping' when you hit it.

When I turned it upside down she said it looked like "Zippy" from Rainbow due to the two lead weights in the heel and toe and the long gap in the face.

Still have it on my rack in the club room.

😆😆😆😆

We may get there eventually.
Try "Where there's muck there's _________"
Ahh... well in fairness its difficult to tell when it is an old club that one knows sod all about and is painted. I am not a metallurgist but I did not think that brass took paint very well. Anyway it will look nice with the paint taken off and polished up...

So ... sod off... 🥰🥰🥰🥰 just joking.. 🤪🤪🤪

Bit of work on the chord grinder to remove the dings and bring the brass finish back up and replace the blue with silver or white or gold and it will be lovely.

I looked up the Draino putter on the web. i have a Taylormade Spyder and I'm not all that thrilled over it, looks, feel, or performance with it. I wonder how I would feel about a Draino, just because it says Mizuno on it?

It is very forgiving Den, more suitable for straight back and through than an arc swing...
But feel wise it is like pig iron... so use a soft ball... they are getting quite rare now..

I'm a bit lost with my putting, especially with the short putts, it gets irritating when you get good birdie looks but can't convert them, sometimes even turning them into an easy bogey.

There are just so many variables in the whole thing from setup to how the offset, neck, sight lines, putter shape affect your aim, how the balance, overall weight, grip etc. affect the stroke and head closure, never mind the ability to judge the speed and break.

The self-made counter-balanced BC-4 has probably run its course even though it's great from long distances and yesterday I played a round with my normal C-02H, which kind of felt more natural at times. I supposedly have a strong arc and the BC-4 has a lot of toe hang but with my natural aim being a bit to the right and the head's attempt to slow down the toe might not be the one for me. The C-02H has slight toe hang in it.

Looking at new putters, I'm leaning towards the Wilson Staff Infinite Bean as it feels good and has huge sight lines to help with aiming at the right direction and is face-balanced. It would be the exact opposite of what I've played for some years now. :)

Another option is the wide Anser like models, Evnroll ER-2, W/S West Loop or the Mizuno IV. I actually got to finally try the Mizunos and the model V caught me by surprise as to how good it looked behind the ball and went very straight on the couple of putts I tried. The small grip (as opposed to the oversized ones I've been using) and the general lightness of the putter also felt like refreshing changes and not nearly as problematic as I had thought.

Choices, so many choices... There's a Mizuno demo day coming up nearby and you can book a half-an-hour fitting time but I doubt they'll do putters.

Putting has never been a strong point of my game either, so I feel your pain - It's so frustrating to hit good shots onto a green, only for you to struggle to convert the chance, or mess it up completely - I was brought up using an Anser (or Anser type) putter & it's the look of it behind the ball I love - Any time I have tried other putters that are either easier to line up (like the #7 Odyssey) or with more forgiveness (like the TM Spider) I totally agree on the benefits they bring to the table, but I just hate the way they look behind the ball - I booked myself a session with a teaching Pro who is a well known putting coach & explained all of the above - After watching my stroke, he suggested I try a compromise between the Anser & a higher MOI putter? - This is basically the "wide Anser" you mentioned above (I also have quite a strong arc in my swing, though I have worked to lessen the arc) - After trying a few Odyssey W (wide) models with various necks, I found the Evnroll 2.2 (also mentioned above) which has a plumbers neck (same as the original Anser I used) - This putter, together with some quality practice time, has turned my putting around & I am as good as I have ever been with the flat stick
In summary, if you can get a lesson(s) with a putting coach & find a putter that suits your eye, but with some helpful technology built in, I'm sure you will see a marked improvement? - Proper putting practice is needed too (not just a few circuits of your club putting green, which is what I thought practice was!)
Good luck ... Paul
