Shot 42/42 for my birthday round. Frankly, 42 on the front ain't bad for me, but the 42 on the back was really disappointing. The back nine is easier and I still look towards breaking 40 there most of the time.

This morning, a friend asked me how it felt to be 72... All I could think to say was, "Even par..."

Belated happy birthday to you, Dennis! I can only dream of shooting 84 at your age. My guess is I'd be fighting to shoot my age on nine holes at that point. :D

I happened to pre-register my round today to be a qualifying round and managed to shoot even 36 points, likely cutting my handicap index by 0.2 strokes. The short irons were giving me several great birdie chances but I've become a horrible putter from short distances and only made one birdie to cover for one three-putt from maybe five feet.

I'm fairly certain I'll be buying another putter soon and changing something with the self-made, counter-balanced BC-4 putter. Maybe cut it down to 36 inches and replace my own weights with the SNSR pistol grip.

Some good golf there Brian - I hope the 650 hybrids had something to do with the good holes!
I played in the sunshine at New Forest yesterday & had a similar experience - Nothing to write home about on front 9 (1x double bogey / 2x bogeys / six pars) - Greens were slow (think they were worried about them getting scorched?) but when I got my eye in on them I went a bit nuts: Par, par, birdie, birdie, bogey, birdie, par, birdie, par - So 1 over for the round (not bad off my WHS Index of 7.1 )

Nice shooting Paul. The 650 hybrids are playing well. The 17* was flying places yesterday it had no right to reach, maybe just catching it flush but more likely the hot weather 😂

Yay, the golf season has begun for real! I got the shanks pretty badly yesterday, full shots and pitches. If I didn't shank one, it was a big hook to the left. Chip shots were either bladed or way short as there wasn't a single, relaxed muscle in my body. The last hole I actually managed to finish was the 12th. I spent the back nine dreaming of having a drink, at least a glass of champagne. A group of ladies were finishing their round when we made the turn and heard the news one of them had made a hole in one. I wasn't disappointed as two hours later the ladies were still enjoying their champagne and a beautiful, hot summer evening at the club house terrace. :)

Driver and fairway wood were good and the new putter seemed very promising, the heavier head does provide me with more feedback about the stroke and it seems clear that the Bettinardi with more toe hang does simply leave the face open at impact.

I'm also hoping the shanks were caused by high hands because I tried everything, stance width, swing path (hitting more in to out helped for a couple of holes) and whatnot but lowering hands was the one thing I didn't think about during the round until, irritatingly enough, the approach shot on the 18th, which ended up as a beautiful, straight and high 7 iron to the middle of the green. So I guess I can't give up on the game just yet. :)

54 holes of golf played this weekend 36 hole invitational at Cawder on Saturday and a round at Scott'scraig today. The Golfers tan is well and truly burnt into me now.
Saturday our pair scored 72 points over the 2 courses. (top score was 82 when we finished!) Today I was 34 points in some pretty windy conditions so pleased with how I was hitting it.

Couldn't hit a cow in arse with an oar with the driver and it cost me several penalty strokes, but I was stroking my new irons !!! Just made the switch for MP 69's to MP20's and switched from T-5 wedges to T-20s (T-20s are so solid through the ball) I had a down hill, left to right breaker for a 79 !!!
I shot an 81 ... damn putter !!
First time on the Forum !!

I shot a 75 (+5) yesterday at the mans comp. It was a birdie free round but was playing pretty well putted poorly on long putts but managed to hole a good amount return putts! Highlight of the round was a par 5. I blocked my first drive right and lost it in thick rough. I did hit a good provisional ball around 280 left side fairway. Left me with 192 yards to the pin. I hit a flush 5I and stiffed it to 2 feet holed the put for a pretty awesome par. I’m starting to like my new irons.

Rain after the first hole? Lol
I’ve been playing just about that badly recently. Doubled the par four 1st, then bogeyed the par five 2nd. Hit my tee shot on 3 and had to pick up.

I know it’ll rain a lot this time of year, but getting washed out the first time every season just hurts more.

I hear ya! It was raining ever so slightly here in the Netherlands when i played my round as well. Good thing is the greens are soft and will hold the ball whatever club you hit at it. My 5i was within a feet from where it landed

Good shooting Brian - Usual story, even a good round could have been better? - That's golf for you! - We had our "Bonanza" competition yesterday (best 2 scores - points - from 4) - 57 teams played & 91pts was winning score (my team were "respectable" on 83pts)

I'm not sure if it's the new handicap system but seen some crazy scores this season already..
