Had a fitting at American golf this morning. Lovely lovely club. The sc look incredible too. Might make a visit to Birkdale to get a proper fit soon...I'm thinking 4-6 sc and 7-pw blade.

I had a good look at these today and was amazed at how good they look. As seanmor has already said, the prices were truly amazing as well. they were probably the most expensive sets on the racks in the AG that I visited. Fortunately I'm not looking at for new clubs, but, at those prices you'd have to be very sure they were the clubs for you.

Wow indeed,  the cheapest I've worked out I could get these for is £893 for 7 irons, pretty steep if you ask me

If you buy them from Snainton Golf using the forum code you will get them for £831.57 still pretty steep though

Would a Mizuno retailer take an order for this:

5, 6, 7, 8 - MP-18 SC (split cavity)
8, 9, PW - MP-18 (blade)

i.e. an 8 iron from each set.

They'll take an order on whatever you want as there is a price per club, but why on earth would you want to though?

I've seen some interesting set makeups, but two 8 irons? I really would love to hear the reasoning behind this one. Is it a distance gapping ida between the cavity back and the blade?

I once had a set of (cough) TM irons which were a mix of cavity back and blades - The set came with 2x six irons, one of each style of head, so the user could decide whether to carry 3,4,5,6 cavity back & 7,8,9, PW blades or just 3,4,5 cavity back & then 6,7,8,9,PW in the blades? - I could see how this might work, less so with the change over being at the 8 iron?

No, just undecided whether to start blade at 8 iron or 9 iron.

Have no intention of carrying 2 x 8 irons on the course.

My 8 iron is 160 yards, so I class it as "mid" iron since I stop playing irons at 6 iron, hybrid after that.

OK... I'm disappointed. I thought I'd finally found someone weirder than me. ;-)

I remember Nike made a combo set years ago along the same premise you are working on. It was a well defined cavity in the low irons, evolving to a muscle in the cavity in the mid irons and the 8 or 9 up were pretty much classic muscle backs. I saw a set in the flesh a couple times and it always seemed like a good idea.

Hope you figure out what's best for you.
