MP-18's - wow!

Tue Aug 22, 2017 5:40 pm

Posted by Danz

Went for a fitting today (outdoors) and had the chance to hit all the MP-18 offerings. Holy cow! Looks, feel, performance - they have it all in spades. Last week I tried both the JPX 900 Tour and the MP-25 and personally the 18's were better in all departments.

After a spot of shaft dabbling and different combo's, the SC with a PX 6.0 shaft gave me the best results closely followed by the DG AMT S. However, as usual the fitting was done with the 'standard' 6-iron from the fitting cart, and for someone who is looking for a blended set this does not bode well. I would love to go ahead and commit to a set of 4-7 SC with 8-PW MB but until I can try the muscle backs in a 'scoring iron' i will be holding on to my money.

For those that are remotely interested, my DNA is 90, 4, 3, 4.67, 5. Shaft recommendations were KBS Tour S, C-Taper Lite X and PX 6.0.

Shafts I tried today were the top 3 above plus, PX LZ 6.5, PX LZ 5.5, DG AMT S, DG AMT X, DG S300

Whilst at a local driving range today, a friend who works there called me over to show me what had just been dropped off!  The MP-18 range looks absolutely stunning in the flesh (or iron, steel, titanium or whatever they may be)!  MMC look much more of a players club than I was expecting.

Prices are currently been obtained....

When I was in at AG today picking up a box of Mizuno balls I had a look at all the new MP-18 irons,

They are truly amazing looking irons but so are the prices ranging from £945 for the MP-18/MP-18SC
And £1,050 for MP-18MMC...!

Out of the 3 sets I liked the look of the MP-18MMC the most but I would want to try them all first before deciding
what set of irons suited me best not that I'm thinking of changing my irons just yet...!

Cheers John

Over a 25% increase on current range (MP5 v MP18 v 900 Tour)

Have got a fitting on Friday booked but my local AG has the heads in already and from first impressions on looks the SC & MMC look better in the flesh than pictures but the 18 didn't look as good (still look nice but not as nice as the pictures on the website).

That's going to sting as it would mean the MSRP of the 18s would be close to 210 Euros per bat over here. That's Callaway Epic money.

Just had a hit with the mp-18 blade. Very very nice. On trackman my numbers were around 168 carry for the 6 iron, which is pretty much what I expected (nearly 180 with the 900 forged) But they felt lovely. Thinking of getting 6-PW and leaving my 900 forged 4 and 5 irons, possibly slightly delofting the 5 iron to fit with the new numbers.

Do they do a gap wedge in the mp-18s? If not, why not!
