Is it official yet what irons these would replace (and please don't anyone answer "mine")? Are these MP15 replacements? Similar naming convention and the 15 has been around awhile. They look pretty "bladey", so an MP5 replacement sounds likely too, but the 5s haven't been out super long.

All hypothetical- We still have  the MP4's listed on the EU site so it could be replacing those. As for an MP15 replacement someone on Golfwrx posted a picture of some prototype irons being used on the JGTO and one had a Ti insert.

The MP-18 has already been used in competition.....didn't Jonny Vegas use them in the Masters???

Anyway, I have seen 2 versions of pictures of the MP-18s.
  • MP-18 Blades
  • MP-18 Split Cavity Combo Set
Both are made of 1025E Carbon Steel and are fully grain flow forged (no Boron). I am practically salivating at the idea of a full cavity combo set of Pocket Cavity Long irons, Split Cavity Mid irons and Bladed Scoring irons.
I once went to the dark side and had a set of Nike VR Pro Combos for a brief time.... The concept and workability was excellent, they just lacked the feel of a Mizzy set. However, they were in effect the only company offering that off the shelf, everyone else was a custom set build where you had to take into account loft differences etc. Theirs were all made as one.

The players recently coming over to Mizuno from Nike were mostly Vapor Pro Combo or VR Pro combo players..... Maybe this is Mizuno taking someones previous tech and transforming it into something great for tour and amateur golfers alike!

Cant wait

MP-18 = pure filth
MP-18SC = Ping IBlade and I cant see the point in them

18 are for purist, why the 18SC though? If you want a "better player" iron with a bit of help then go for the 900 Tours.

Unless of course the 18SC are to the 18 that the 900 Forged are to the 900 Tours but without the jacked up lofts, that I could understand.

I like the idea of a slightly more forgiving set at the top end. Like I said, the VR pro combo set was great through the bag and did make a difference in workability and feel down the bag, just not Mizuno feel.

Genuinely, with the standard MP lofts these could be heaven for a Cat 1 Cat 2 golfer.....
