Swing Weight?

About 10 years ago I bought a stock set of MP-32s with DG R300 shafts and Golf Pride Tour Velvet grips off the shelf so I believe that these would have D2 swing weight?

A few years back I bought a set of MP-64s with the same DG R300 shafts and NDMC 58* grips with an extra layer of tape.

Would this alter the swing weight?

Hello ... In my experience one extra layer of tape would have a negligible affect on swing weight - Also if the clubs were built with the extra layer of tape, this would have been taken into consideration to ensure the swing weight was correct
You could always get the 64's checked to allay any worries?
Hope that helps?

I've posted about swingweight on the GolfWRX forum many times.  Swingweight is not an absolute measurement.  It is a measurement of static balance of a club taken at the point 14" from the butt end.  As such, you can NEVER compare swingweight between clubs that are not part of the same set.  That is, clubs that have any components that differ are not comparable.  Those components include the heads, shafts, and grips.  If anything is different, swingweight comparisons are meaningless.  You can build a very heavy club that measures at swingweight C8, while you can also build a very light club to D7.  You just cannot compare swingweights directly unless all the clubs are from the same set.  Swingweight really should be re-termed as swing-balance, it's not about the weight.

Also, what you "feel" when you swing a club is not the swingweight, but the MOI and MBI (MOI Balance).  MOI is the dynamic heft of the club.  MBI is an absolute measurement of the distribution of the weight across the components of the club.

On to your issue, more than likely the clubs you are having trouble with have vastly different MOIs, not just between the old and new ones, but also across the clubs within the sets.  I'm sure you probably have a favorite club or two.  MOI is why.
