I grew up in Louisville and have acquaintances who are members at Valhallah. Oddly enough, all my childhood friends who are members of fancy courses never played golf as kids.

People around Louisville actually consider Persimmon Ridge to be a better course. Valhallah has some exclusivity, but Persimmon Ridge supposedly is the better layout.

Hey Dennis
That's really useful to know as hoping to get out there this year and will bear that in mind!

The one course I definitely want to play before a kick the bucket (of balls) is only a 9 holer with 5 par threes and 4 par fours, but the location looks incredible. Lord Howe Island gofl course - heaven on earth.

An Albatross. I want this more than an Ace. My new MP59's will help me achieve both.
Carnoustie My favorite course. I will play this one day.
Pine Valley. A private course in New Jersey. Supposedly harder to get on than Augusta. I don't believe that.

What's the deal with Pine Valley? What makes it so exclusive?

Pine Valley is so exclusive the members don't even like each other.

I managed to tick Pebble and Torrey Pines off in one trip last year - OMG Pebble is so amazing, even if you have to do what I did and get there at 5am to see if there's a three ball you can join do it!

I also played it off the US Open tees because I'm a sadist.  What's your handicap Sir, 2, oh go ahead enjoy yourself lol.  I've never been more nervous over a tee shot thinking they'd catch me out!

The Old Course is now my number 1 target, but it has to be in a group of single figure players so we can play off the plates.

VERY NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hoped to get to Pebble at one point when my daughter lived in Gilroy, California, about 40 minutes south of San Francisco. We went to Carmel on a day trip and looked around, but going through the 17 mile drive, I could only get a peek here and there between houses. Later, at a whaling museum, I could see parts of it across the bay, but trying to see it better by zooming my camera lens to it's highest enlargement didn't help much.

About the only course right by the road that I could see was Spanish Bay. It was really windy that day and I honestly don't know how people could stand it. It looked scary enough without wind...

I didn't find it too bad, nice wide fairways compared to tight heathland I'm used to!  Absolutely stunning setting, I left my wife at the aquarium (she had an amazing time - this is my top tip guys, the otters are distractingly cute!!!!) & met up with her after the round. One of the best days of my life!

Scotland Trip arranged for May Spring Bank Holidays:

Thursday = Prestwick
Friday = Nairn
Saturday = Royal Dornoch (championship)
Sunday = Castle Stuart
Monday = Gailes Links

I've played the middle 3 before and Dornoch is the best course I have ever seen/set foot on/played. If ever you want to see what golfing heaven is.... go there!!!!

Looking forward to the Gailes Links. I've played Western Gailes, Troon, Prestwick and Dundonald Links. Hoping it is as good as the others.
