Most sports clubs I have been involved with over the years, rugby, rowing, GAA and golf have all required a two thirds majority for changes to the constitution. It's normally the reason why change amongst sporting organisations is so slow. I'm with DeeMac on this one. I consider myself a firm believer in equality for the workplace, public bodies etc but if a private members club wants to keep their archaic rules, to me that is their business. It would make me not want to be a member of that club any longer/at any point. As far as I'm concerned Muirfield are perfectly entitled to do this, I disagree with their position entirely and fully support the R&A's stance on qualifying to host the Open championship.

Oh and hi everyone.

There's an old joke and I can't remember who said it, but it goes... "I wouldn't want to be a member of any club that would have me."

You've pretty well expressed how I feel too. They have a right to their policy, but they have an obligation to deal with the consequences. I wouldn't choose a club for myself that felt so contrary to my own morals and ethics on a subject like this.

I wonder if any of the members dropped out over this?

The "issue" here is not somebody telling Muirfield what to do. Rather the R&A are telling Muirfield (and everyone else) what the requirements are to host the worlds greatest golf competition.

This is a storm in a teacup, where the teacup is so small it is actually invisible to the naked eye.
"When I do a bad shot, I blame myself. When I do a good shot, the club gets all the credit" - me.

I hadn't heard about that. It sounds like quite a few people want to vote on whether to leave the EU over again too.
