What have I bought recently? Fishing weights...

I lengthen and backweight my irons. I have used tungsten pellets up to now, but that limits me to about 1/4 ounce. I just found some 1/2 ounce lead fishing weights that are shaped perfectly to fit in the open end of the extension. I could put 2 in a one inch extension, maybe 3 if I went to 1.5" extra long.

I bought every bag the sporting goods store had... I think the 3/4 ounce weight would fit too, but they didn't have enough for me to finish a set.
I've had a good day if I didn't fall out of the cart...

Not bought and not Mizuno, but I was given 2-9  "Nicoll" Henry Cotton irons.with graphite shafts. I took them out for a few holes yesterday and they felt really good, only problem is that don't have sufficient swing speed to hit the 2 iron further than the 3 iron. I may just give the 2&3 a run out on a windy day instead of hybrid.

That has to be a lot of fun, trying to hit those irons. I have a set of Haig Ultras a friend gave me. I tried to hit the 5 iron and when I hit it squarely, (maybe 1 time out of 3(, it was an incredible feeling.

The two lovely blue items I was lucky to receive for fathers day. The 56 degree now no longer has the blue sheen on the sole due to excessive practice, and has a nice gouge from a hidden brick in a practice bunker................cue tourette's

After a bit of frustration with the inconsistency of my fairway wood shots, I demoed two hybrids out on the course today. The 16-degree JPX-850 and a 17* W/S FG Tour F5. The JPX is more of a mini fairway wood whereas the F5 is much smaller (but no Adams Pro Mini).

I couldn't really separate the two on the course, if I hit them both from the same location, the second one was always better... Usually hooking the heck out of the first one. :D I have a gut feeling the F5 is the better one for me but a couple of astounding shots with the JPX, its absolutely gorgeous looks and the running bird logo are affecting my thoughts.

I need to go to a range with them to figure out which one is the real winner.

I'm currently playing the 900 hybrid, but I've had the 850 hybrids in the past and both series feel and perform extremely well.

It's hard to separate hybrids away from the rest of the woods as a category of clubs. So many people find a driver they like and just buy a fairway wood and/or hybrid of the same brand.

I guess my point is, the Mizuno hybrids are better than I think they get credit for. The adjustability of the 900 hybrid makes it a truly superior utility club.
