Had a good wee round on a local 9 hole this afternoon. Bit of a mixed bag, but putted well so, managed 20 points over the nine holes. Drove the ball well and putted well, so, more than happy with my efforts. Played with my nephew today for the first time since I got back on the course. Game starting to come together again :)

First round playing off double figures for 4 years today.Very, very warm, which was  more of an issue than i imagined.7 over on front was not great.Including a 6 on my si 10 hole 8  par 3? But a 2 over gross on back 9 got me to a 69 nett.1 under and 37pts.Left a few out there but a 0.2 cut will see me straight back to single figures.

No comp at ours today as it was Last 32 of the club handicap matchplay. The course was resplendent bathed in the warmest weather of the year so far. The greens were running at a cool 10.9 when the green staff did the reading at 6am!!!
I was giving 5 shots away to my opponent and managed to nullify the 3 shots he got on the front 9 by winning each of the holes preceding them, 3,6 and 8 Shot +2 gross going out and was all square in the match.
I then birdied the par 5 10th and nearly HIO'd the 11th which is a 190yd par 3. I jammed the flag and had it conceded from 7inch. I then lost 12 which was one of his shot holes with a par and also lost 14 when he birdied it. A par on the 15th was good enough to putt me back in front but then a dbl bogey with a tee shot OOB on the 16th putt us back A/S with a shot hole for him on 17 and the easy 18th left.
17 is a 475yd slight dogleg left par 4 that is slightly up hill. I nailed a driver off the tee 300yds and then hit a 7i to 12ft. With a par that was good enough to take the lead and a simple 6i off the tee on 18 followed by a SW to 6ft saw the match finished and Brattz winning 2up.
Very happy with the 75 (+4 gross) in very testing conditions. Heat, a good breeze and lightning quick greens made it a real test of resilience and course management.

Played off the black tees to accompany my playing partners in a medal yesterday (not currently a member). Shot 89, new swing definitely a work in progress. Two quads were card killers but I'm probably playing off around 14 at the min. Need a full year of practice then I'll be scratch next year

CSS went up 1 so a 0.4 cut and back to 9.1.Came 2nd in Div 1 and only lost out to a gross 69,/39pts by a young lad off 2hcp..

John Feinstein, whose writing I don't particularly care for, wrote a book titled, A Good Walk Spoiled. That was today.

I had the best round going for at least the past couple years, 1 under after 7 holes. All of a sudden the sky opened up and because of where we were, we all got soaked to the skin before we could get back to the carts and grab our umbrellas.

I opened my Drizzle Stick, a tiny umbrella that goes over my clubs and got in the cart with my big umbrella held out to keep the rain from hitting me. There were no dense trees we could shelter under, so we decided to drive back to the clubhouse.

I didn't stop to think on the way back, I'd have to face a different direction into the wind, so as I turned up the ninth hole, I got a blast of rain in the face and my umbrella turned inside out. By that point, it was funny, so I stopped in the midst of it all, fixed my umbrella and just drove in looking like I'd been swimming with my clothes on.

So, I shot 28 for 7 holes. What do I win?

Decided to give the rollup at Guildford a miss Tuesday & joined a 3ball teeing off at 0740 - Good decision as it was 29* when we finished at 1045! - Started poorly & finished with a disappointing 15pts on the front 9 - Back 9 was much improved with 7 pars & two bogeys for 19pts - This would have been much better had the putter behaved, but sadly I never holed a thing! - Was trying a different tee height with the 900 (lower) & this seemed to work well with average distance just under 250y & a couple of nice bombs down 17 & 18 - I was also trying a new ball - Picked up some Nassau Quattro balls (from what I have read these are the same ball as the Kirkland Signature, sold by Costco in the US & very highly rated) - I was impressed with the performance of the ball in all respects - Definitely held its own against my usual balls (Mizuno MP-S / Z-Star / Pro V)

Not that keen, but played in a club match Wednesday at Clandon Regis (only a mile or two from Guildford GC) - Tee off was 0845 4BBB - I was giving 16 & 6 shots to the opposition & 11 to my partner - We started at 10th which I drove close to & then chipped & putted for birdie - Hole halved! - That set the scene for how the match panned out - We did go two up early on, but lost four holes in a row (including 2 net eagles!) and were 2 down at the turn - We then lost the 10th (1st) to another net birdie but despite the heat (34* when we finished!) my partner & I played some great golf & the opposition ran out of steam, so to speak - We got back to all square with 2 holes to play & our 17th was halved with 2 more net birdies - Having almost driven the Par 4 9th hole (our 18th) I was disappointed to only chip to 15' & miss the birdie to win the match, but we all agreed a half was a fair result - This proved critical when it transpired that our half resulted in our team not being white-washed (team result 5 & a half to a half!)

Off the back of my B championship win last year I was entered into the Lothian Handicap Matchplay competition.

A bye in the first round then today a 5&3 win over the Braids B champion on his own course.

For those that don't know the course, it a municipal gem in Edinburgh and very tough with lots of gorse. Only one lost ball off the tee and about +12 for the 15 holes I played. Medal tees were a challenge too!

Next up another away tie at Deer Park in Livingston.

...got beat 4&2 by the Deer Park B champion who has played there for 20yrs. I just couldn't compete against his knowledge of every bounce and borrow.

Tough competition playing two away ties but at least the guy that beat me had only one non Mizuno club in his Mizuno bag.

Played scratch KO match Thursday night and aftera poor start i was 3 down at the turn. That soon turned into 6 down with 6 to play. Then i won 13,14,15,16 and 17th holes to tee it up 1 down on 18th.We both walked off with pars after i left my birdie putt agonisingly, 2 inches to the side from 20ft.Great game to play in and i was 1 under for last 6.
