So you're now playing to close to what your true handicap should be?

You feeling guilty yet about taking all our money off your false handicap in the summer???? :)

I had quite the golf weekend. Golf Digest and our golf union asked Finnish golfers to rate all the courses they've played in the last couple of years and the courses at my home club came 9th and 20th out of some 140 courses in the country. Our members were also the most satisfied with their home club out of some 80 clubs and their memberships in the country and also topping the list in quality/price ratio for visiting players.

The good news didn't stop there as we got the news the courses would open again on Saturday morning as most of the snow melted on Friday. I went out and got to play 27 holes. I didn't keep score but I started to find my swing again on the back 9 of the first round. I've been struggling more or less since late September and I had been trying to enjoy just being out there but yesterday I was actually enjoying hitting the shots!

I had the EZs in the bag and the PW was flying some 130 meters, the 9 was almost 140 and the 8 was close to 150 on the perfect strikes. Those are 10 metres more than on my good swings in the summer (the temps were around +2 C), there were also a couple of perfect drives and one absolutely flushed 5 iron. Oh and some partial wedge shots that turned out just perfect. I did have some issues with what we call "club draw", or more simply put, hooks.

I want to feel that easy swing again and go play some more but now it seems like the season really is over. :(

Today I headed to a rules officials' meeting, taking the next steps on my refereeing career towards The Open. :D We do have a well-structured system in place with several levels of rules officials and required check points on the way. What I found out today is that I've already done a year's worth of extra work even for the level I applied for today. :)

The St. Andrews Trophy and The Jacques Leglise Trophy will be played quite close by next year and I'm already hoping I could work in some role in either or both of those events.

First game of the week for me was Monday at Guildford - Inter-club Winter League which is 4BBB format - I was giving opposition both 9 shots & my partner 10 - We got off to a great start with my partner having net birdies on 1st, 3rd & 7th holes, so we were 4up at the turn - I had dropped a shot at the 1st, but parred every hole to the 15th where we won the match 4&3 - Sadly, despite winning matches 2 & 3, we lost the rest to lose overall 3/2 (not good in this league to lose at home!) - Hope to get a run down to New Forest for a game Wednesday (it's tough being a retired old geezer!)

Second game of the week today (Wed) at New Forest - Bloody freezing! 5* but with wind chill 0* - Friendly 4ball with "gimmes" so take score with pinch of salt! - We are also off winter tees which shortens the course somewhat, but it was windy, so no piece of cake - I had 4x birdies / 4x bogies / 10 pars so level par for the round - Best shot was on Par 3 8th which at 205y into a stiff breeze was a choke down driver  - Landed & stopped 4' away & missed the putt (?)

Average 30 points today with 3 blobs. Tee shots OK with only 1 iffy drive, irons and approaches were poor which is where most of the points were lost.
