I was part of the wining team in the club summer pairs last weekend.

36 hole final, all square after 18, all square after 36. We won it with a birdie on the 37th. Board comp too, which is nice.

To say WE won it is a slight exaggeration to be honest, I didn't play good at all, and didn't have that much to do with it, I was fortunate that my partner was inspired - playing 6 shots better than his handicap on the final 18. Although as my partner quickly pointed out, I played some good stuff in previous rounds to get us to the final, which was nice.

I did notice that 3 out of 4 players who made the final used Mizuno irons!

Last practice today before going to Portugal for the International Pairs world final. Me and 3 pals went to play Morley Hayes after last nights deluge....

39 out, 38 back. Gross 77, 37pts. That included a 7 for blob on the par 5 17th hole. Fair to say the form is still there...

I got a round in yesterday and it looks like there's still a chance to get another round or two in.

29 points and no stroke play score as I used a hand wedge to get out of one jam. One green was covered in slush and we needed to try and chip the ball into the hole.

The first experiment with the EZs was rather two-folded. I struggled to hit them well on the range when warming up (my swing in general was atrocious though), the miss was a thin shot and I was hitting my MP-4 6 iron much better. I can only assume it was due to the lighter shaft (XP105 S300 vs KBS Tour stiff) but the thin shots did travel quite well.

The ball did travel very straight on the course though even on shots that launched high and I was getting more distance out of the bad shots than I expected. I did end up with two birdies on par-3s, first one coming on the 5th, 165 yards over water. Quite a thin hit but carried the water onto the green and straight at the flag. The second one came on the 17th, the ball landed a foot left, a foot long of the hole and bounced back to pin high.

So all in all, some good shots in there, some shots that surprised me how well they turned out but also thinking some of the bad shots were caused by the club itself. Having the correct shaft in them might be the trick. :D

Now I just want to get another round in this year.

Last week was a bit of a blow out for me - Eight days off & my game went to rat droppings! - Clearly I am one of these golfers who need to play / practice to maintain my handicap (?) - Anyhoo, I was picked to play in our inter-club Winter League match today at Guildford - My partner & I faced off against two identical handicaps (5 & 10) - We started well & went 3 up after 3, but were pegged back to 1up at the turn thanks to the opposition having birdies on 8th & 9th - We kept our noses in front all the way to 18th where we were 1 up & I parred that to secure a 1up victory - Our opponents won the league last year & their first match this year 5 nil, so to beat them 3.5 to 1.5 was a very good team effort ...

Two rounds in one week in November, fantastic!

Unfortunately I lost 6&4 and I'm unconvinced by the EZ Forgeds after two rounds with them. My friend was +2 when the match ended while I was sailing towards a low 90s score, which I turned into high 80s going -1 for the 3 holes right after losing. :D

Despite having made 4 birdies in the last 2 rounds, 3 of those on par 3s, I'm not convinced the EZ Forgeds would be any easier for me than the MP-4s. The problem might very well be the shaft though. If I get another chance to play this year, I'll bag the 4s or 32s and check how they work with this autumn swing of mine.

Played first round of the winter 4BBB today. Played ok, shot one under handicap and my partner was around his but we lost 4&2. One of the opposition (someone I play with normally on a Saturday, top chap) was 7 under his handicap when holing the winning putt on 15. He ended up with a 73 (playing off 13). No chance.
