First game this week Mon) - Could be the last looking at the weather! - Club match away at Farnham GC (Surrey) - My partner was getting the most shots (10) with the opponents getting 1 & 6 - We got off to a great start as I won the first two holes - Course was rock hard at the start & several holes were on temporary greens due to a hard frost - There were a few "fun" tee shots - I hit my 3 wood 295y on one Par 4 & a driver 330y on another! - Back to the match: We were 3 up at the turn & immediately went 4 up after 10th - However we got pegged back to 2up & looked like losing the 15th until I chipped stone dead & ended up winning the hole to go dormie 3up - My partner, who only contributed on two holes, holed the winning putt for a half up the 16th - That, however, was the end of the good news for our team, as we lost the other four matches to lose 4/1

I did get out again today (Thurs) Guildford this time - Rollup off 2hcp - Started with 4 pars but dropped shots on next 3 holes & finished with 16pts on front 9 - Back 9 was much better with 7 pars 1 birdie & 1 bogey - 20pts so 36pts total (respectable with only 6 clubs!) - Hoping this relatively nice weather continues into the weekend & I might get a round in at the New Forest?

Final game of the week today (Sat) at New Forest - Rollup off 5hcp - Decent weather for a change, though still as wet as an otter's pocket! - Putter stone cold but with my half set of 6 clubs I had a respectable front 9 of 18pts - Started well on back 9 with 3 pars & a birdie but got an awful bounce on Par 3 13th & didn't score any points from the bush I finished in! - Nice birdie on 17th & back 9 of 20pts - So 38pts total & only 7pts behind the winner

Only my 2nd outing of the year this morning ,in pretty chilly conditions.Hit it pretty  solid ,although i still need to dial the new driver shaft in better.Hit some pretty crisp approach shots and scrambling was very good too.Playing off my winter 4 hcp, I managed a respectable 33 points for the overall win.A share of the front 9 and a team win.Off 1 hcp next week for my troubles.Pays for the Chinese later though!

Cheeky Sunday round in the roll up at Doncaster yesterday. Started off by blasting my opening tee shot bang straight where I aimed it.... OOB seen as I was supposed to hit a cut!
started off 6,5,5 with a lost ball and two 3 putts both caused by bobbles so only 3pts in 3 holes..... then started playing! Finished front 9 with 6 consecutive pars for 17pts total and then had pars all way to 15. Bogeyed 15 after a poor approach shot but had a shot so nett par then drove the par 4 16th and had a tap in birdie. 2 pars to finish and came in with 37pts and a gross 74, nett 68 (-1). Brattz is still happy

Tuesday rollup at Guildford today - Shame the weather forecasters messed up (for a change!) - Expecting dry, breezy & it hosed down for over an hour! - Playing off 2 I got off to a decent start with 5 pars & then from 170y on SI1 6th managed to double the hole from the fringe - Another dropped shot on 7th & then pars on 8 & 9 - 16pts on front followed by 17pts on the back - Putter main cause of the poor scoring, but greens are ropey at best, so not going to beat myself up ...

Last match in our appropriately named "Brass Monkeys" Winter League today (Thursday) - Singles giving 13 shots  - Dry but very cold (sub zero with wind chill) - Started well (Par / Birdie / Par / Par / Par) but lost SI1 6th & Par 5 8th (3 putts from fringe for Par) - Finished with birdie on 9th (for a half) so 2up at turn - Won 10th but lost Par 3 11th to a birdie - Was pegged back to all square on 16th (another net birdie) but won 17th against shot to go 1up down 18th - Tried my best to give the hole away but managed to half it & win 1up - Runner up in my league (lost 1st match & won all others) so not in the knockout this year ...

Final game of the week today (Sat) in rollup at New Forest - Hcp same as club (5) so hoping to tear things up on the shorter winter course - Tee to green I did just that, but despite numerous birdie chances I made nowt - Only highlight was driving to edge of Par 4 12th & putting in from off the green for eagle! - Finished with 39pts (including a 4 putt blob!) - A decent day with the flat stick would have seen me contending with the winner (43pts) ...

Played a game with my son in law Greg over The Fullerton links municipal course at Troon today, weather was very bright with clear blue sky's but very cold never getting more than 5/6 deg C for the full round,

Started of badly with the driver just couldn't keep it from going right off the tee recording 7,5,7 for the first 3 holes so decided to leave it in the bag and just play my 3 wood off the tee's, that proved to be the right decision as I started to hit more fairways fortunately my iron play was very steady as was my chipping and putting,

Had a number of near misses with the putter that could have improved the score had they gone in but overall was very happy with how I played finishing up with a gross 86 for 37 points,

All in all a most enjoyable day

First round since Wednesday 28th February  (a week of snow followed by a few days in Florence) - Also had only one range visit in that period, so to say I was feeling rusty would be understating it somewhat! - Also using a borrowed driver as my M2 had an issue with the weight port - Anyhoo, played at the New Forest or the new wet version, New Forest on Sea! - It was incredibly wet, mainly due to the foot of snow that was on it melting & quite a bit of overnight rain - Also raining when we teed off - My rollup handicap has gone out to 6 - I started birdie bogey birdie bogey before getting my first par on the 5th - Also parred 6 7 & 8 before finishing with a birdie on the 9th - 22pts - Not quite as good on back 9 starting with two bogies didn't help, but I rallied well & had two more birdies on 15th & 18th to have 21pts on the back 9 & 43pts overall - Well pleased having not played for so long (for me) - The score isn't quite as dramatic as it sounds as there were several temps & winter tees - Will be playing off 3 next time out

Or is this normal for this time of year?

Normal, the courses usually open in mid April. We just paid a visit to the course as the pro shop had a clearance sale before all the new gear starts to pour in.

I only bought two Ping gloves but I did hear some good news, Mizuno got a new distributor in Finland earlier this year (same guy handles Ecco and Galvin Green) and Mizuno is now returning to our pro shop with demo sets for both irons and woods. I can't wait to try out the new stuff. :)
