The Open at Royal Bikdale

A few weeks away I know but who are people fancying for it?

As a local lad from Southport then my top pick is Tommy Fleetwood, he's playing well at present and has been for a while, will have massive local support and knows the course quite well.

Have also put a few out there e/w bets on:

Ross Fisher @ 150/1 and Willy McGirt @ 250/1, not decided if I will also look at few quid e/w on Si Woo Kim @ 150/1

A few of the higher (top 20 or so) ranks could also be worth looking at, Garcia / Matsuyama / Fowler

Thoughts?????

I will wait until I get some idea of what the weather is going to be like before betting. Since it will be the Irish and Scottish opens before this I will be looking to see who will be able to play 8 consistent rounds of good golf as there has been quite a few of the Europeans that have only been able to manage 3 out of 4 rounds and thrown chances away this year. I hope Harry Ellis takes his Amateur Open form into this and becomes Top Amateur.

Fancied Fleetwood a while back.  Whilst the US Open was on I decided to take 66/1 and had a little E/W flutter!

Think he's around 25/1 now.

I'd love to see Tommy win at Birkdale - He went up in my estimation hugely when we spotted him on the course last year at the Northern Forum Day @ Formby Hall - For those that weren't there, Tommy was playing with his mates & had his huge Nike tour bag on a pull-along rental trolley! - But the best bit was, he didn't have a caddy, he was just pulling it along himself, like a normal guy out for a social game!

Back to The Open ... Not sure two warm-up events will be enough for Rory to get his competitive juices flowing, but love to see Rory in the mix - I fancy one of the 'Mericans to feature, Ricky or DJ maybe?

I think that if the wind blows then Rickie Fowler has a good chance. I'm going so will be rooting for Tommy Fleetwood and a lad from my boyhood club who qualified shooting -10 in 36 holes at Hollinwell, Joe Dean from Hillsborough.

My bets are:
Tommy Fleetwood
Rickie Fowler
Joe Dean
Hideki Matsuyama

As another Southport born n bred, I too fancy Fleetwood to do well and hope he does.

Always remember playing Southport and Ainsdale once when I was around 17 yrs old or so, and having to let Tommy and someone who I assume was his Dad play through as they were quicker than our group was being....

...Tommy would have been 10 yrs old at the time and could hit it better than probably most adults!

Where in Southport are you from?

I was born in High Park but spent most of my life living in Marshside before moving away

Fleetwood would be an ace win.

The f*cker used to sneak on the course with his dad.
"When I do a bad shot, I blame myself. When I do a good shot, the club gets all the credit" - me.
Fire in the belly, space between the ears.

Small world - Churchtown back in the day - rarely get back now but certainly looking forward to returning for the Open.  Hoping for a Fleetwood win but Birkdale is normally a good Open whatever, so whoever wins I hope it's an exciting final day (though 2016 will be hard to beat...)
