How often do the tour players switch irons and wedges?
When I was reading this blog I could see that Magnus Carlsson got a new MP64 set 18th of Apr
and he got another one 25th of May!?!

This was asked before - as far as I can remember it's usually one (maybe 2) iron sets per year and more like 2 or 3 for wedges. Obviously depends a lot on the player

The first set for Mgnus was for him to put in play and the 2nd set was a back up for him to keep in Sweden.

Most players will wear a set of irons out in about a year, and wedges in about 4 to 6 months. They do hit a lot of balls!

Another short-ish week for us on tour - the workshop has just left - as the up-and-down, North-South schedule continues: Germany, Ireland, France Scotland!

We’ve been in Dublin at the magnificent Carton House GC, just west of Dublin, for the Irish Open.

We didn’t have the best of sites for the workshop as there’s no vehicular access to the range so we were parked quite a distance from the range. It’s amazing, but we’re always quieter when the pros have to walk a long way to the workshop!!

So, not one of our busier weeks, just a bit of maintenance work and then spent the rest of our time planning things for the build up to The Open, which is now only a couple of weeks away!

Unfortunately I didn’t get many images from the workshop this week so thought I’d post a few of the beautiful course, hotel and clubhouse instead….

We’ve been at Paris National this week for the French Open. The course is one of the players’ favourites and will make a fantastic venue for the 2018 Ryder Cup. Thrills are always guaranteed, and the final few holes (specifically15-18) are brutal, with water hazards everywhere!

Chris Wood is back in action after a few weeks out with a back injury. He may be a little rusty but is pleased to be back playing and determined to do well to secure a spot in The Open. Loft and lies checked on a new set we built him a couple of weeks ago and he’s all set.

Peter Whiteford popped in to say hello but didn’t need anything other than a few caps and a couple of towels – his equipment is all working well after his top 10 last week in Ireland.

Luke Donald is back on European soil and had the full service on his equipment – loft and lies checked, new grips, and a new MP-T4 lob wedge in the bag and he’s all set for a good week.

With Mizuno staffer Marcel Siem defending this week we’re hopeful of another good week at the French Open where accuracy with your irons is paramount.

I wish my clubs looked like that. Mine have the occasional toe balls and other marks we won't mention out loud.

Wow some serious wear on that lob wedge.

I'd guess 95% from practice 5% from playing.

Course looks looks stunning and with Paris on the doorstep not surprised it's a favourite event for lots of players.

re Luke's lob wedge, there is another like this (54 deg loft / 09 deg bounce MP T-11) on display at Wentworth, donated after his 2 BMW PGA wins. Check it out if you have the opportunity.

I don't know if it has been mentioned elsewhere already, but best of luck to Andy Kikidas. I only met him once, but he seemed like a great bloke - granted  this opinion is formed largely by him refusing to let me take to a course like Bearwood Lakes with a knackered old grip on my driver (re-gripped on the spot!)
