This week the Workshop visits the magnificent city of Turin, host city to the 2006 Winter Olympics. The Venue is the stunning Golf Club Torino which first opened in 1920 and last hosted the Italian Open in 1999. The club is also home to the Molinari Brothers.

The weather has been kind and is set to be for the rest of the week as we continue to test JPX EZ product. As I write this, Ricardo Gonzalez has posted a superb round of 65 (-7). Ricardo has put 13 Mizuno clubs in his bag for this week including a 9.5 EZ driver, 15 degree EZ 3 wood and a 19 degree bent to 18 EZ hybrid all with a Diamana D+ X Shaft. As UTT mentioned in last week's post, a little 'rat' glue was added in the toe of the fairway and hybrid to produce the fade bias Ricardo prefers.........EZ is already producing for Ricardo!

Peter Whiteford continues to use the EZ driver which we built last week in Holland. During Wednesday's practice Peter was put though his paces on our Trackman launch monitor with his EZ driver, the results were very pleasing with a more consistant spin rate and carry distance than his old gamer.

We also managed to grab some time with Magnus Carlsson putting his new 16 degree EZ hybrid through its paces. Below is a screenshot of Magnus' Trackman data...some impressive desperision.

Congratulations to Luke Donald after fantastic last day performance at The BMW Championship. Luke needed to finish in the top 4 and he produced just that, finishing 29th in the Fedex Cup standing to make it through to next weeks lucrative Tour Championship. Good luck Luke.

As the Workshop makes it way back to Blighty for the Dunhill Links Championship at St Andrews, enjoy a few pictures from the scenic Golf Club Torino....ciao!

Alfred Dunhill Links Championship

Welcome to a wet and windy St Andrews. Its that time of the year again when Pro's team up with Amateurs to hit the hallowed links of St Andrews, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns.

For those not familiar with this event, it’s a little different from our weekly tournaments. Played in teams of two, comprising of one professional and one amateur, the competitors play each of the three courses in rotation over the first three days. After three rounds there is the cut, rather than the usual two rounds.  From here the  Top-60 Professionals and those tieing for 60th place and the leading 20 teams play the final round on The Old Course at St Andrews.

In addition to playing three courses, there are two competitions running through the week: An individual tournament for the Professionals and a Team competition which will be of the lower of the professional's and his amateur partner's score at each hole.Amateur men must have a recognized handicap of 18 or better. Amateur ladies must have a handicap of 24 or better.

Ricardo Gonzalez this week felt that he wanted to try an EZ driver that was a little softer and lighter. We built a 10.5 loft, with Project X Black 6.5, tipped by 1” at 45.5”. As you can see from the Trackman data below, the 10.5 was a little spinney. Ricardo commented it felt great but not a suitable ball flight for this week so he’s stuck with his original EZ 9.5 set up from the previous week.

Woody was back in action this week after a week off.  He’ll be playing in next weeks Vivendi trophy representing team GB and Ireland where he’ll be looking to improve on his already impressive 4-0-1 record in the event. We built a back up driver for Woody as his had its’ second birthday this week and was looking a little tired!! So happy birthday MP650!

Weather has been pretty bleak this week unsurprisingly.  Most mornings have been masked with a thick fog which lifted around 10 to 11 most mornings and fairly cold. Needless to say our stock of winter wear has taken a hit over the practice days, with this week seeing the first outing for our new 2014 "Runbird" beanie!!  We’re all looking forward to a slightly warmer week in Paris!
