I started last season as 12.9 and went up to 13.2 before I finished the season as a 11.1, which was a new record for me. Our club did their Annual Handicap Review today and my handicap dropped by one more stroke to 10.1 as I had suspected. The median of the scores I returned last year was 34 Stableford points, 29-33 would've kept it where it was.

What makes it funny is that I've never broken 80. My career best is 81 which I've shot several times, including a couple of times on a par 73. The easier course at my club is a par 71 and now I get 10 strokes from the regular men's tees. Thus I'd now need to tie my personal best to play to a net 0 stroke play score. :)

So how low/high was your handicap when you broke 80 for the first time? It might be fun to get to single digits without breaking 80. :D

I need to dig deep into my memory for this! - I played in a 36 hole competition at Sunningdale when I was playing off 13 handicap - We played both courses & on the New Course in the morning I shot 93 (net 80) - My wife came up to caddy for me in the afternoon & asked me what went wrong? - I said I was spraying the driver all over the place, so she took it out of my bag & locked it in the boot of the car! - On the Old Course in the afternoon I shot 76 (net 63) - I won the Medal Cup & was only a shot or two from winning the Scratch Cup - Under the old handicap system I was cut to 10

I broke 80 for the first time, playing off 13, which is where I am now. My current best is 75, which is +3.

I was playing off 18 when I shot a pair of 78 within the space of a month.  One was during a winter league match at my old club so there was not cut involved. I got down to 16.4 but have crept up to 16.7 since the move to our new club.its beautiful when you have one of those rounds where everything just clicks into place!

It sounds like Paul has a wise wife and Lefty must've made plenty of new friends after his round. :) Also, breaking 80 twice as an 18 is quite an achievement too!

My season goals have been breaking 80 and making an eagle for a couple of years now. Last year I made my second eagle so I guess it's time to raise the stakes and make it an eagle, more than a couple of rounds in the 70s and handicap below 9.5.

Not sure what my handicap will be when I break 80... Best I've done is 82 and that was off the medal tees at my course.

77 playing off 21. Stableford comp and I scored 51 points, 28 points on the back 9, including a 2 for 5.

I genuinely couldn't understand why I was not a very popular winner at the time :)

I do remember being 12 years old, but I don't remember actually having a handicap. When I played in junior tournaments between members of various country clubs back then, we only played gross score individually and team total. I don't think there were handicaps for children.

As a youngster I played most of my golf over the local ' muni ' Silverknowes Golf Course in Edinburgh. I wasn't a member so was playing of an unofficial handicap at the time of 15. Still remember highlights of that round and parring the monsterous 18th for a 79. par was 71, so it was a day to remember.

Based on the answers I'll probably break par when I finally do break 80. :D

Rumours are that the bookies have you as early favourite for the 2017 5th Major!
