I was talking to a Mizuno rep at a demo day, and he was suggesting that I may want to have my shafts "short-stepped" which, for example, would put a 4-iron shaft in my 5-iron. I couldn't understand exactly the purpose of that and was wondering if a Mizuno staffer or other knowledgeable person could advise.

Sorry - meant to say "soft-step" not "short-step."

Soft stepping increases height with a modest softening effect on stiffness.

Idea is that the tip is the softest part, so soft stepping puts first step (in a TT DG, for example) a shade further away from the head. This will give a more active tip section and more height.
