It's interesting how people interpret numbers.

Looking at that picture I see it as that the ST is more consistent on distance but the 900 has better L/R dispersion (approx 14 yds v 30 yds)
I’m with you Hursty and my thoughts exactly. But as MPX said, I guess you had to be there. Must be more going on because otherwise I’d expect minimising L/R dispersion to be a key objective.

Does Mizuno give the Tour pro's Tour Van Driver Heads" like other club manufactures or is the head "off the shelf"? By the way I tried to get a tour Van Head for my son who swings at 115 and they are very difficult to get. A club rep who worked on a Tour Van for a while told me that they had to make a head that would rebound at higher swing speeds. He said those heads will give the faster swings speeds a little more yardage than the off the shelf heads but definitely not work for the slower swing speeds.

Laying up on the golf course leads to more shots and in my case, that leads to more naps...

For me i’m glad the tracks have been ditched, I thought the 900 was overly complicated and the impact sound was far too loud, ( just a personal view, I prefer a more muted sound) these, plus the numbers, were the main reasons I rejected the 900 on test.
The key to this driver (as with any driver really) is going to be the shafts, with my M1 changing the HZRDUS yellow to the heavier black shaft (75g) has transformed my numbers, now straighter and longer than the yellow, talking to the fitter at our recent fitting day, he said it was possible to swap my HZRDUS black into the ST180 with a “universal” adapter, what I don’t know yet is HZRDUS are going to be a custom shaft option ? Any info on this would be welcome.
And I still hate the look of the M1 !!!!

As far as I know from the forum days and with mizuno reps on the forum days . the heads are the same for both the pros and amatuers , thats what makes mizuno special than the rest, also their custom fit .

If you look on the main website the shafts are already up.

They've dropped the whole speeder Evolution line and there are now more options. Hzrdus isn't one though.

Had a look, very few “heavy” weight X shafts, shame they have dropped the Speeder line as that would have been my second choice. Looks like a fitting session is on the cards, providing that Mizuno supply the shafts for the fitting carts, or plan B change adaptor on my hzrdus and fit that.

The Tensei and Kuro Kage shaft options are way better than the Speeder and the HZRDUS. Both have ratings of 99% for radial integrity at full torque meaning they retain their 'roundness' through the swing and for the full length of the club.

Only 1 brand of shaft beats that across the board and they cost £250 each..... yes you guessed it... the Oban Kiyoshi line

I don't want to get into an off topic discussion about shafts, but having used all the shafts you mention, in my opinion, you can't generalise that one shaft is "better" than another? - All the ones you mention are at the top end of the market - In my own case I didn't get on with the Tensei or KK shafts but did get on well with the Speeder & Hzrdus (& still do) - I've also had a number of Oban shafts (Devotion & Kiyoshi) but I went on to find something mainstream that worked better for me - Fitting is the key here - Find somewhere with a good range of shafts to try (not easy in the UK?) or pick up the shaft(s) you want to try on the used market ...

Well, it isn't me that say they are better, the Golf Shaft Directory states that they are..... I'm not arguing with the directory used by club fitters...

The GSD is a basic comparison tool at best and only used by some fitters....

(Un)fortunately there is no database/tool/calculation that can determine the 'best' shaft for ANY individual golfer.Getting fit is the only way to determine that and more often than not the results will surprise you. Manufacturing specs/tightness, $$ costs don't say anything about the performance of a particular shaft for a golfer. All it might do is increase the possibility of the specs two individually produced shafts matching.

OK, so I got locked out of the forum under my old name, so I’m back as above. Welcome, I hear you say.

A slow January, so I’ve imported an ST 180 driver from USA. Actually works out cheaper than the RRP in UK.

Lovely club, and not missed a fairway yet :)

Thought that could only be you Nick! - After you had all your clubs stolen, I was worried that you'd had your computer robbed as well (?) - Look forward to more of your sledgehammer posts in 2018 ... Paul
