Sprowston Manor event done.

After a bright start where we were -4 to handicap after 6 holes the wheels fell off for several reasons. Pace of play was terrible, 2hours 40 for the front nine, waiting on every hole. We got hit into on 7 which almost resulted in our playing partner having a punch up with the tosspots behind as they almost hit his wife (his playing partner) on the head. Rather than apologising to the guy they threatened to hit him. Nice. That soured the atmosphere and we then proceeded to play garbage for the rest of the round as we got more and more pee'd off. Getting on for 5 hours is just too long. Bearing in mind we played the same course off the same tees a few weeks ago in 3:10 (as a 2 ball)

The live scoring thing was good but unless these are marshalled better I don't think I'll play another. It was supposed to be fun and I really didn't enjoy that at all. Hopefully Eddie enjoyed himself more at the back end of the field.

We were held up for the 1st 6 holes. We asked the group in front to let us play onto the par 3 greens before they putted out  on the front 9, which helped. I think it took 4 & a half hours. We ended up on 40 points. The group we were with would have won it if they had got 2 points on 18, they both had shots. They ended up 7s for 1. Gutted for them as they dovetailed really well. My partner & I played reasonably well, but had a horrible habit of messing up holes at the same time. Roll on Forest of Arden tomorrow.

Have a good one tomorrow Eddie, glad you had more fun than we did. I was hoping your playing partners would win too as the tossers behind us ended up winning on countback I think :lol: We should have thrown the balls they put over our heads in the water :D

Forest of Arden was really tough today, or should I say we were really sh1t ? 29 points. All I'll say is , if you play there, do not have gimmes. We missed load of tiddlers  !  Back to the mundane that is Swaffham at the weekend.

Meon Valley last week was OK. Finished mid-table. Didn't experience any of Banananananas' problems, and we were round in good time. Nice bunch of blokes and well organised, even if the winners were -9 "shock"

had a quick look at the scorecards, 2 and 16 handicapper dove tailed perfectly. One over from the 2 capper with a few pars and a birdie for 4 points for the 16 - perfect better ball golf.  Harsh to call a 2 handicap a bandit lol

I played in an Open 4BBB comp about 2 1/2 years ago with 3 mates (poor planning as it was the final singles day of the Ryder Cup at Gleneagles).

Myself and my partner were 8 & 15 respectively and our other mates were 5 & 9, this was still on the 3/4 handicap allowance system.

We didnt do anything special, about 38 points or something but our mates were unbelievable. The 9 handicapper would have been about 2 over on his own ball, However, the 5 handicapper played the best round of golf I've ever witnessed first hand. He was 3 under gross on his own ball, the team ended up with 48 points!

In our interclub better ball match play league where the handicap limit is 10-18 and the winning score in matches is often around level par gross. Teams that dovetail well and make a few putts can be dangerous.  You don't lose many holes with a par is our motto. :)

We have had plenty of -9 and even -10 scores in some of our fourball comps over the years.Not unusual at our place.Most recently a 2 hcp and 10 hcp achieved -10.

If you add up your 3s and 4s from your last stableford and make the 0s and 1s into 2s - what would you shoot?

Effectively that's what a good dovetailing team is doing.

Which is about right Rob, you just need to hope your partners 2s match your 0/1s and you don't both make 3/4s on the same holes.

The Pros were coming in with similar -9 type scores at the weekend - great to watch :)

Anyone got another of these Pairs events coming up?
