Encouraging news from Hawaii: Luke Donald is back on the PGA Tour, with a respectable 69 on Day 1. Thumps up for a good season!

Looks as though he had 3 shredded wheat for breakfast, 304.5 yds driving distance but his accuracy was poor at 42.86%.

Before I play Monday morning, how much shredded wheat do I need to eat to hit it longer?

I'm going to say something sorta unAmerican here, but in recent years, there are so many American pros who are so plain vanilla that they could win everything and I still wouldn't find them interesting. They all live and die by the cliche with nothing interesting to say.

I find myself much more interested in the players from the rest of the world, specially Europe and what I think I like is, they give more thoughtful answers to an interviewer's questions. Luke and others like Ian Poulter, Sergio, John Rahm and Tommy Fleetwood always seem to say something more thoughtful. During the Ryder Cup, I even found myself rooting for some European players just because they are more interesting to me.

Maybe I was just born on the wrong side of the pond.

The shredded wheat ref was to do with a TV Ad series by one of our cricketers.

Shame Luke missed the cut.
Maybe he's more of a muesli type of guy!

Hopefully he'll make it into tonights tv coverage. He needs to put in some good performances to be taken seriously. Hopefully he's back to full fitness and can move forward from here.

Valspar definitely rewards accuracy, so should line up well for Luke

His first round GIR Stat was poor at 44.44% so his shortgame/putting must have been working well

Not quite firing on all cylinders on Saturday, but still in touch with the leaders at -6, just three back. Saw some nice putts drop, here's hoping he gets a good finish.

Be nice if he can finish strong? - Not sure he can win against those who are in contention, but after the year he's had I'm sure top ten would be a real bonus?

Was a big ask after so much time off - i think the adrenalin rush early on Sunday would have been tough to cope with. Often see the player who makes the first move on Sunday fade first. But was very promising to see Luke's game look very similar to where it was a few years back.

Four rounds under his belt on a tough course are bound to boost his confidence. A top 10 finish will always be good for the confidence :)

At the Valero Open his first round GIR Stats were poor again at 33.3% and he missed the cut.

After 3 rounds at the RBC he is tied 27th. His GIR stats show over 50% for each round so a steady improvement.

Edit:- 4 birdies, 3 bogies and double in the last round for a T33.
