I have just called Mizuno and they said that stock over 10 years may not have a serial number

If you go back to this post https://mizunoforum.com/threads/mizuno-jpx-pro-serial-number-question.25052/#post-122587 you will find that not all standard sets have a "code" on the hosel or ferrule for this "era".

I have just had a look through some old clubs and I have a "battered" T4 56* wedge with a custom shaft and it has no "code" on the hosel but does have a "code" on the ferrule, 3219C and considering when I ordered this it doesn't even conform to the date built.

They might not have one, but still be genuine. I had a set of JPX EZ forged irons (2014/15 MY) and they had no serial number on them. According to Mizuno, at the time some stock/standard sets didn't have numbers but the custom sets did. As far as I know, from that time on, the serial number is merely a 6 numeric digit sequence reflecting the date when they were put together at the factory followed by a 'C' for custom build or 'S' for stock/standard supply

I remember both of my MP-T4 wedges had the dates on the hosel, one was custom and the other off the rack but my MP-T5 doesn't have one. Neither does my MP-53s but my single MP-57 and 67 irons both have serials on the ferrules. MP-H5 and 4s have the dates on the hosel.

I have just bought some jpx 921 hot metal pros off eBay with no serial numbers on them, yet the gap wedge has a serial number on it.
I currently own jpx 919 hot metals and these all have serial numbers on them
I would expect all of the current range to have serial numbers on them theses days.

I would expect a set from the 921 range to have the etched numbers on the hosels (as mentioned above, these are the build date not a serial no) - As you bought from Ebay you would be covered if the clubs were proved not to be genuine, so who was the seller? - What feedback does the seller have & is the feedback mainly for golf clubs? - As a regular buyer seller on eBay, when I am asked for advice on buying, I always tell people to "buy the seller" - Check out who the seller is & what they sell or have been selling - How much feedback do they have? - You can usually sniff out a scammer if you stick to this plan? - In terms of your clubs, I can't see any harm in asking about the set / where they were bought etc - Chances are the GW was added to the set, which is why it has an etched number?
Good luck ... Paul

Hi
Thanks Paul for the reply
The seller seems legit, but as I’ve explained to them I can’t feel confident they are genuine without the etching on the club heads.
He has been telling me the serial/build number is under the grip, but why would you put it there as it’s the only way you can identify the irons.shafts can be replaced but the club head is really what your buying the clubs for in the first place,

Hi ... I wonder if by "under the grip" he means on the shaft below the grip i.e. if you look on the shaft just below where the bottom of the grip ends? - Mizuno did used to etch their clubs with a number there, but that was before the current system & after they stopped etching the ferrules - I'd say if you were not confident about your clubs, you would be within your rights to return them? - The only other positive thing I can say is that a couple of years ago I bought a set of JPX919 Tour irons & these did not have any etched numbers either - I asked the same question & was told the heads were off the Mizuno Tour Van - The seller gave me the name of the person he got them from (who I happen to know) and it turns out clubs that go there do not have etched numbers on them - It is possible there will be a few sets like this in circulation? - I take it you have done a thorough comparison of your irons against a genuine set (in a Pro shop or using online images)? - It is usually easy to spot if they are fakes in my experience? (fake ones usually have a poor effort at the etched number on the head, which yours don't?)

Thanks paul
The shafts have got a black plastic on them so there’s no way of etching them.
The seller has agreed to take them back.
So on to the next set for me.

Hi looking for some help on a similar issue, not getting anywgere with Mizuno which I cant understand you would think they would be pretty hoy about possible counterfeit clubs.
I have recently bought a set of new JPX 919 hot metal irons via ebay - had no reason to mistrust the seller. I have been using a set of JPX EZ forged. I always use standard rather than customised. After trying to use them for a couple of rounds I was somewhat disappointed with their performance - I was shanking and fluffing and every other sort of bad shot. I had a closer look at the clubs and realised there were no identity numbers on the hosels on any of the clubs as have my existing set and suddenly became a bit suspiciuous. I did a bit of research and even phoned Mizuno and was told that all clubs would have ident number regardless of what market they are for. I contacted my seller (no accusation) who assured me they were genuine as had been purchased from Clubhouse Golf a registered stockist and he gave me a copy of receipt from them for 5 sets of clubs. As they have been used he is not willing to have returned but has since told me that if I can prove they are fake he will refund. I have contacted Mizuno trying to get a letter from them but they are not playing ball. To complicate matters I had raised a return case with Ebay and then decided to check if paypal would cover - by contacting paypal they have cancelled the ebay case so its now going to take longer.
What I need is a definite statement as to whether the clubs should have any ident or not.
I have experience in traceability and batch control and dont see how the invoice can be validated against a set of clubs that dont have any sort of traceable numbers
Thanks for any help anyone can offer

Hey all! I just bought a set of jpx919 forged irons and I'm really feeling they are counterfeit. I cannot find any "serial" or any date code on the hosel or ferrule. I'd rather not cut off a basically new grip to see if there is a number under there because then I have to find a stock grip go go on it. I have no pro shop I'm aware of near me to bring and compare to a "real" set. I hit a couple of the irons and they felt good to me so I guess I'm going to play them and call it a day. I haven't played a round with them but the few balls I hit felt good imo. I did read that a LOT of the fakes have the NS pro shafts on them which the set I bought does have, assuming they are even real Nippon shafts. My suspicion is raised from no numbers, grip smell (weird I know lol), and they just don't look like $1200 irons to me.

Yes I had much the same prob but I found I couldnt hit mine even after previously using JPX model. I put a claim in through ebay and managed to return for full refund. I was not at all happy with Mizuno response as would not give me definitive answer in writing as to whether or not they should have serial numbers. I never did find out if they were genuine or fake

Just upgraded to a slightly used MizPro 225s from a very reputable UK used club dealer and there is no serial number on any of the irons. The clubs look fantastic and look genuine. Any thoughts? Thanks
